Day 5
Enable Google Messaging + Auto-Reply
You can do this from desktop or the Google Maps / Search app on your phone.
Log in with the account connected to your business
Select your business location
Look for the “Messages” option in the menu
If you don’t see it, it may be under “Customers” → “Messages”
Click Messages
Look for a toggle or button that says “Turn on messaging” or “Activate”
Turn it ON
Using Google Maps:
Open Google Maps
Make sure you’re signed into the account that manages your business
Tap your profile picture (top right)
Tap “Your Business Profile”
Scroll to find “Messages”
Turn Messaging ON
Using Google Search:
Open Google
Type your business name (while logged into the owner account)
Tap “View profile” or “Manage profile”
Look for “Messages” or “Messaging” in your options
Turn it ON
The auto-reply is what customers see immediately when they message you.
It’s your “we’re on it” signal.
It should:
Thank them
Tell them you’ll respond soon
Ask for helpful details (like photos)
You can copy one of these and tweak it:
Option 1 — Simple & Friendly
“Thanks for reaching out! We’ve got your message and will reply shortly. For a faster quote, please send photos and a brief description of what you need help with.”
Option 2 — Professional & Clear
“Thanks for contacting [Business Name]. We’ve received your message and will respond as soon as possible. To help us give an accurate quote, please include photos and a short description of the job.”
Option 3 — After-hours Friendly
“Thanks for reaching out to [Business Name]! Our team may be away from the phone right now, but we’ve received your message and will respond as soon as we’re back. For faster help, send photos and details of what you need.”
On Desktop (Google Business Profile):
In your business profile dashboard, go to Messages
Look for “Settings” or a gear icon ⚙️
Find “Welcome message”, “Auto-reply”, or “Greeting”
Paste your chosen auto-reply message
Save
On Mobile (Google Maps / Search):
Go to your Business Profile
Tap Messages
Tap the three dots (…) or Settings
Look for “Welcome message” / “Edit welcome message”
Paste your message
Save
You’ve turned messaging on - now make sure you actually see new messages.
Go to your phone Settings
Find Google Maps or Google Business
Make sure Notifications are turned ON
Allow:
Alerts
Banners / pop-ups
Sounds (if you want)
You can also enable email notifications for new messages from your Google Business dashboard.
You’re done for the day when:
✔ Messaging is turned ON
✔ A friendly auto-reply is set
✔ You’ve tested it (message yourself from another account/phone)
✔ Notifications are enabled so you don’t miss leads
Now, when a customer messages you, they’ll see:
“Thanks for reaching out! We’ll reply shortly — send photos for a faster quote.”
Instant trust.
Instant professionalism.
No more silent inbox.
You’ve just fixed one of the biggest hidden leaks in local businesses:
👉 Customers reaching out…
👉 Hearing nothing…
👉 And going elsewhere.
From today on, no one who messages you will feel ignored.
